Discovery Cooking Group

Date:  Next Date is May 18th (Indian food is the next theme)

The group will meet every 3rd Sunday after that

Time:  5:00 PM

Location: Civic Center area

Discovery is putting a group together that will meet regularly to explore and celebrate the art of cooking. Each month a different group member will be chosen as the “celebrity chef” and will demonstrate preparation of a different style of gourmet cooking.  Another member will be the "sous chef" to help with preparation.  After watching the preparation, the group will socialize, enjoy the meal together and provide feedback.

Have that favorite recipe that you would love to prepare and share with a group of appreciative foodies?  Want to learn more about different styles of cuisine?  Addicted to the Food Channel?  This would be the group for you.

This activity is limited to 15 members who must commit to purchase all ingredients and prepare/demonstrate one family-style meal.  This is not a potluck group.  The first meeting will be Sunday, April 6th at 5:00pm in the Civic Center area.

Send an email to socials@discovery-community.org with indication of interest, what level of cook you consider yourself to be (beginner, intermediate or expert) and where you live in the Bay Area. Also let us know whether you would be interested in hosting a cooking school.  If interest is greater than fifteen participants, additional groups may be formed based on location or expertise level.

  Volunteer with Us--It's Fun

Discovery has a lot of ways you can volunteer.  We have one time events, (like the Castro St. Fair), as well as committees that meet to plan social events, retreats, fundraising, etc.  We are a 100% volunteer organization, so any time you can give is greatly appreciated.  Plus, when you volunteer, you are lending a hand in creating the community you want.  Here are some great ways you can help out with Discovery:

Volunteer Crew--The Volunteer Crew is the spot for you if you want to volunteer your time for one event or task every now and then.  If something is coming up and we need help, we'll give you a call and see if you are available.

Web Designer--We are looking to completely redesign our website and need some help.  Are you a web designer?  Would you be willing to donate some time?  Let us know.

Social Committee--This group meets once per quarter to plan out the social events.  They also coordinate and manage these events.

Fundraising Committee--Are you good at raising money?  This group works on events and campaigns to help Discovery raise funds to keep us operating and being able to provide retreats and events.

Retreat Committee--This is the team of guys that gets together to plan and execute a retreat weekend.  Have you always wanted to see certain workshops?  Well, when you are on a retreat committee, you will get the chance to do that.  This group comes together for a specific retreat and then a new retreat committee does the next one.
